THIS is the reason Liverpool lost
By Oliver Holt At Home Park
Today's team selection is Slot's first mistake in English football. It's also a reminder that, however much coaches pay lip service to the FA Cup, it's the competition that takes the hit when the big teams are trying to find an opportunity to rest their players.

OLIVER HOLT'S match story from Home Park

Arne Slot had made a flawless start to his time as a manager in English football until he took his Liverpool team to one of the great outposts of our game to play an FA Cup fourth round tie at Home Park.

What next for the Reds?
By Luke Power
Liverpool must dust themselves off and move on. They know that. Forget the Quadruple, realign for the Treble.
They've got the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday. That game will be as tough as ever, with the Toffees in transcendent form after David Moyes' return.
Then it's Wolves, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Newcastle all before March comes around. Who ever said February was the shortest month?

Liverpool join unwanted club
By Luke Power
The Reds are just the fourth Premier League leaders ever to be knocked out of the FA Cup by a side outside the top flight.
Let that soak in.
Only Leeds, Chelsea, and Manchester City have been knocked out by lower-league opposition while leading the Premier League.
We're used to big teams being felled, but not when they're in stunning form. Don't forget that just days ago they pulverised Tottenham 4-0.
Fair play to Plymouth. Nobody will want them in the next round.

Liverpool hit rock bottom with unbelievable stat
By Luke Power
As per Opta, Liverpool had 0.44 expected goals today - their lowest of any game this season!
Obviously, some people will roll their eyes at XG, but it is a decent indicator of how many big chances the side had.
In all they had 14 shots, but towards the end more of them were from range or in tricky situations. Only four hit the target.
As for Plymouth, they had 10 shots, with two hititng the target, Ryan Hardie's winning penalty being one of those.

Arne Slot: We're HURT by this
By Luke Power
Arne Slot was gracious in his post-match interview with ITV after seeing Liverpool's Quadruple chances extinguished in shocking fashion.
Great game from plymouth, good plan, they deserve all the credit, and we were not having a very good day. A result like this is the outcome.
I don't think I can say the boys didn't fight because it was a fight for 100 minutes. Both teams hardly had any chances and then there was a penalty, which was awarded correctly as he had his hands above his head.
It was up to one moment and it was for them. They deserved it.
I think the players were able to do better, but it's a playing style where it's hard to create your chances against. When we had the ball, we were really aggressive. We expected them (us) to play a better game.
It hurts everyone, fans, me, players. We were all wanting to go on for as long as possible.
They kept on fighting until the last second. It wasn't a work rate problem but they couldn't find openings and chances. We have to be more creative in the upcoming games.

Plymouth's extraordinary, contradictory defence
By Luke Power
Plymouth have kept two clean sheets in the Championship all season - against Portsmouth and Stoke.
Somehow, they have also kept two in the FA Cup... against Brentford and Liverpool.
Football has a mind of its own, sometimes.
We should hear from Arne Slot soon.

Plymouth manager Miron Muslic: We're part of Argyle history
By Luke Power
Speaking with ITV, a man who is already making a name for himself in English football so soon after arriving.
Ooh. Speechless. Normally they tell me I'm eloquent!
It's a big moment for us, another chapter in Argyle's history.
This performance we spoke about the desire and joy to defend. It's Liverpool, they will be on you. The lads did fantastic.
My first day here at Argyle, it's about clarity and structure. I wanted to structure this team with the staff, to organise the team, to fill this organisaiton with intensity and be hard to beat.
I'll realise it when I'm leaving the stadium and going to my apartment, having a moment to breath. It's the game we love. Sometimes as coaches we miss these moments but I want to enjoy it.
We filled it with intensity, desire, and hard. You see the clearances from Katic, from Maksym, from Julio, the saves at the end.
I'm convinced that if you can organise a team and fill it with passion, you're almost there (getting up the league). We're now part of Argyle history but we have to go again on Wednesday, and we will.
Somehow I feel we deserve this day. You need luck. it means a lot to us. This togetherness, we show it at Home Park.
Asked if he wants Manchester United next, he said: 'They're more than welcome.'

Ryan Hardie did his job at the other end with the goal, but hats off to goalkeeper Conor Hazard for two clutch saves towards the end from Jota and Quansah.

Hear from more of the Plymouth heroes
By Luke Power
Goalkeeper Conor Hazard to ITV:
We didn't expect that this morning but the boys were brilliant today. Thank God for every single one of them
(On late Jota save) That's my job! I'm delighted with that.
Nikola Katic, man of the match:
That's why I came here. I realised from the first day with the new coach, energy and everyhting. It's a beautiful day.
Every man gave 120 per cent, we respected what the manager asked of us.
I f***ing love it!

Plymouth's giant-killer status
By Luke Power
That's the second Premier League team Plymouth have dumped out this season after they went to Brentford in January and won 1-0 with a late goal from talisman Morgan Whittaker, who isn't at the club anymore.
17:06
Plymouth fans ecstatic
By Luke Power
Home Park is bouncing. The players are doing laps of the ground, soaking it all in with the fans. The people on the south cost can scarcely believe it.
Is this not the most sparkling testimony to the magic of the FA Cup? Plymouth have been battered by the likes of Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday, and Norwich this season.
In January, Burnley beat them 5-0 at Home Park. But not Liverpool, not arguably the best side in Europe.
Football.
17:03
Hear from Plymouth's heroes
By Luke Power
Ryan Hardie, goalscorer, speaking to ITV:
We all came today believing we could get to the next round and we've done it.
There was a lot of pressure on it (the penalty), I've had a lot of practice, it's just about picking your side, I've been practicing for a few days.
Callum Wright, who went to the same school as Steven Gerrard:
We've been hard to beat, the gaffer has drilled that into us, and we've stuck together.
The gaffer has brought them in to strengthen us until the end of the season (the defenders). We started to get nervius obviously but we stuck in, kept the lead, thought we could do it and we've done it.
It's insane. A dream come true to play them, to beat them...
16:59
FULL TIME: Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
And that's it, jubilation at Home Park as Plymouth, against all the odds, the side who are bottom of the Championship, knock out Arne Slot's Liverpool and become only the fourth team to beat them this season.
16:59
Terrific save! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Incredible.
The left hand fingertips of Hazard send the ball out for a corner after a diving header by Quansah. Tsimikas had swung the ball into the area with everybody up and Nunez had headed it on to the defender. Hazard's save sends it over the bar,
From the corner, Hazard saves from Kelleher. Is that it?
16:57
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
90+9
Talovierov goes in the book for a slide tackle in his own half. He actually got the ball but it was such a severe challenge on Chiesa that he gets punished anyway.
Kelleher is up for the free kick.
16:55
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
90+6
Poor ball from Chiesa as he misdirects a limp cross from the byline and Plymouth get it out, but Liverpool pick it up on the halfway line. they continue to probe, more frantic by the moment.
Another big header away by Katic, a hero today.
16:53
Great save! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
90+3
Sensational acrobatic work from Hazrad as he dives towards the top corner and denies a snap shot from Jota. He'd be disappointed if that had gone in but still, a huge save.
16:52
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
90+3
All the tricks are coming out of the 1-0 Lead Playbook as Sorinola charms the ball towards the corner flag and starts defending it with all the might of his back, but can only hold out for a couple of seconds.
Tijani is suddenly presented with a half-chance from a diving header but Elliott blocks it with his rump.

There's disbelief as nine minutes are added on. Lee Dixon lets out a little chuckle and brands it 'cruel'.
16:49, 90'
Huge chance! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
McConnell can't believe it!
Liverpool sent a long ball up, katic headed away, and goalkeeper Hazard comes running out for it as the ball trickles to McConnell. he slices a shot wide first-time. How has he not hit the target? These things happen in a flash, and he's not a striker, but more composure may have helped.
16:46, 87'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Talovierov is celebrating like he's just won the World's Strongest Man award after a slide tackle on Tsimikas puts it out for a corner, all pumping fists and guttural roars, then he turns medic as he does some physio with cramped-up team-mate Sorinola.
To use one of Jurgen Klopp's phrases, this is heavy-metal football from Plymouth, specifically the defensive part.
16:44, 85'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Oh, Jota. A mistake from Sorionola sees the Portuguese unexpectedly with a chance to drive at the post. He sends a low ball spinning across goal but it's too hard for Darwin Nunez to get there at the far post. The commentators are slamming Nunez but Jota gave him little chance, should have been closer to start with though.
16:42, 83'
Chance! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Ardent defensive work from Katic, who throw his head in the firing line of Nunez's boot to put it out for a corner.
Liverpool do well from the set-piece, and it eneds with Chiesa looping in a lovely ball from the left. Quansah, grappling with a green shirt, swings desperately at it but can't make a proper contact. Goal kick.
16:40, 81'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool - goalscorer taken off
By Luke Power
There's a standing ovation for Ryan Hardie as he is hooked for Michael Obafemi, the battering ram who will intend to harrass Liverpool's backline within a millimetre of their lives.
We edge closer to history.
16:39, 80'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Sorinola goes into the book. One rough challenge too far, this time on Jota feeling the full force of his slide and chopped down.
Plymouth just need to watch that they don't get overexcited. Their pressing has become extremely aggressive in these latter stages but the reason they have kept Liverpool out so far is through being compact.
Hazard comes out to claim the cross from Tsimikas. Easy as you like.
16:36, 77'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Fantastic drive through the middle of the park by Jota, and at full pelt he slips a pass through to Nunez. it was long and the Liverpool man almost got there at a ferocious pace, but Sorinola managed to clear just in the nick of time on the edge of the area.
16:35, 76'
Liverpool sub

Trey Nyoni has run his race and is being replaced by Trent Kone-Doherty. He shares a first name with another academy graduate who you may have heard of...
16:33, 74'
Block! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Superb block from Sorinola. Diaz had surged into the box to meet the cross which was on a plate on the ground and must have through it was going to be an easy finish - until the Plymouth man materialised out of nowhere to spurn him.
16:31, 72'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Plymouth are having more of the ball and pressing aggressively. Sorinola thumps into Diaz on the halfway line fiercely. Foul.
Bundu and Randell are off for the hosts, Boateng and Tijani are on.
16:29, 70'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Bundu has worked his way into the bad books after a foul on Trey Nyoni deep in Liverpool's half.
16:27
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
A wild cross from Kostas Tsimikas which would sooner reach Mars than the Plymouth penalty box. Jeers from the crowd. They're soaking in every moment of this carnivalesque day.
16:26, 67'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Plymouth are taking off their long-throw merchant Julio Pleguezuelo with an injury. He's had a good day and the crowd show their appreciation.
Victor Palsson, a 33-year-old former Liverpool youth star, is on.
16:22, 63'
Off the post! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Oh my, that was nearly 2-0.
It was a super knock down by Katic for Hardie, who gets control of ther ball under challenge from Quansah, and pokes a shot towards the near post from yards out.
Kelleher may have made a save with his stretched leg, it pings off the post and out for a corner.
Liverpool's goal livinga charmed life there.

WATCH: The penalty that put Plymouth 1-0 up
By Luke Power
16:18, 59'
Nunez thrown on
By Luke Power
Darwin Nunez is on and young debutant Isaac Mabaya is off, cruelly, after coming on earlier for Joe Gomez. A tough one for him to take but understandable, and Arne Slot explains it to him.
16:16, 57'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Plymouth fully deserve their lead. Liverpool had been sleepwalking since half-time. They were feeble in the first half whenever they got near their opponents' goal.
This goal is the jolt that changes the game, for better or for worse for the hosts. But they lead, and they're loving it.
16:12, 54'
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool (Hardie 54')
By Luke Power
Wow, thunderous noise at Home Park! The stadium is bouncing!
Hardie shot to the right of the goalkeeper, Kelleher dove to his left, and the ground erupts. Ecstasy of the purest kind. What a game we have here.
16:11, 53'
Penalty to Plymouth!
By Luke Power
Sam Barrott instantly points to the spot after a Harvey Elliott handball. Gyabi had taken the ball down in the area and tried shooting over his head on the turn, hand was high, no doubt about it.
16:09, 50'
Chance! Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Wright wins a corner after cutting in past Mabaya down Liverpool's right side and firing a shot goalwards, but Endo gets a block in and spares Kelleher the work. Poor corner, though.
Slot is in close consultation with his dugout minions. Something has to change soon...
16:06
Nunez preparing to cause havoc
By Oliver Holt At Home Park
Darwin Nunez was warming up in a fairly meaningful fashion at half-time. Liverpool could do with him.
They looked toothless in the first half, which may be the first time we've said that all season.
16:05, 46'
Second half underway
By Luke Power
Alright, here we go again, Liverpool get us going for a half that could go either way.
16:04
Liverpool's dominance on the ball
By Luke Power
That's an incredible stat - Quansah and Endo, who is captain, have made more successful passes than all 11 of Plymouth's players.
Arne Slot's side have had 79 per cent of the ball - an astonishing amount - but only mustered three shots to their hosts' four.
16:00
Plymouth's roaring defence
By Luke Power
As mentioned before, here's Maksym Talovierov celebrating like a man possessed after a challenge on Diaz. Every ounce of Plymouth's being is being poured into Mission Frustrate Liverpool.
Part Two out in cinemas in a few minutes.
15:57
Liverpool lacking top-level options on the bench
By Luke Power
It's a rough and tumble game, and one which could go the distance, but Liverpool have left most of their obvious difference-makers at home.
With all respect to the youngsters, who could become heroes, the only senior options on the bench are Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. No Salah, no Gakpo, no Mac Allister, no Alexander-Arnold (he's injured), no Van Dijk, the list goes on, none of that lot.
15:54
Plymouth's game plan working perfectly
By Luke Power
It's only his sixth game in charge but you can see Miron Muslic's fingerprint all over his Green Army.
They've been industrious, compact, and full of intent on the counter. They've dragged Liverpool down to their level. Full compliments so far.
15:49
HALF-TIME: Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Well, it might be 0-0 with few chances, but that was far from drab. It has been an enthralling encounter, with two opponents from different worlds finding common ground... in the hotly contested midfield.
A few counters from Plymouth have threatened to upset the apple cart, while Liverpool grew into thehalf but had no cutting edge.
15:47, 45'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Plymouth are often doubling up on Chiesa to shut him off, even when he's only yards into their half.
But Nyoni tries to find him in rare space as he sends a ball towards the right corner but it's overhit. Chiesa slides to try and keep it in but can't control it and topples onto his hindquarters.
15:43, 43'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Gyabi smashes a half-volley first-time in the box and is soars over. he committed the deadly sin of leaning back when shooting. Don't lean back!
That chance had come from a long throw from Pleguezuelo. This Plymouth team are exhibiting all the hallmarks of prime Barclays Stoke.
Mabaya goes in the book for kicking the ball away.
15:41, 40'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
A diving header from Nikola Katic for absolutely no reason as he bonks away a cross from Tsimikas. This Plymouth team are determined to prove how lionhearted they are today.
That comes amid a period of pressure as Liverpool enjoy successive corners but still, they haven't carved out one clear chance. At the moment, Eden Hazard could be in Liverpool's goal, not Conor Hazard. Simply job thus far.
15:37, 37'
Save! Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
The final ball is lacking for Liverpool.
Diaz tres to slip Nyoni through in the area but the pass is wide.
McConnell has a go from range and it's an awkward one for goalkeeper Conor Hazard as it bounces, but comfortable save.
15:35, 35'
Penalty shout! Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
The boos are roiling round Home Park after Mustapha Bundu fell down in the area after a tangle with Tsimikas and nothing was given. Even a minute after it happened. Didn't look a penalty but not pretty defensive work.
15:33, 33'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Good defensive effort from Chiesa as he tousles with Wright for the ball near the Liverpool corner flag and wins a throw-in. Clearly he was listening to Arne Slot's pre-match advice.
But Plymouth aren't going away and left-back Puchacz swings in two crosses but Liverpool get it away both times. Still, he was too easily afforded space down the side.
15:31, 31'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Quansah slices a long laser ball over to Chiesa on the right flank but Plymouth deal with it. Anything the men in white throw at their hosts, it's thrown right back in their face.
Can the Championship side, who are the EFL's most leaky team with 63 goals conceded in the league, keep it up for 90 minutes and beyond? That is the question.
15:28, 28'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Liverpool looking more established now and feeling their way around the nooks and crannies of Plymouth's half with patient build-up.
Elliott tries to break the habit by dinking it in the direction of Tsimikas, who tried a penetrating run from the left, but the green defensive wall isn't having any of it and it's hoofed away.
Back to gradual build-up...
15:26, 25'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
'Plymouth's three centre-backs look like they've played together for years,' says Lee Dixon on commentary. Hard to disagree so far.
They've been organised and aggressive, not taking any prisoners today. Then again, it would be hard to literally take somebody prisoner in front of 16,500 fans and an indeterminate broadcast audience!
15:22, 23'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Quansah channelled his inner Daniel Agger with a marauding run from the edge of the penalty area midway into the half but let the ball go as the hunting pack chased him. Nice intent.
Maksym Talovierov celebrates proudly after tackling Luis Diaz but getting a goal kick out of it, with the Liverpool man convinced it should have been a corner.
15:20
Who is Isaac Mabaya?
By Lewis Steele At Home Park
For those of you who are not aware of Liverpool's latest debutant Isaac Mabaya, he is a 20-year-old from Preston who started his career as a midfielder but has moved to right back as he progressed up the age groups.
The positional change has led some to compare him to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who did similar in his late teens.
Mabaya's last couple of years have been riddled by injury but seasoned academy observers speak very highly of him.
(Picture from January 18 PL2 game against West Brom. The Home Park photographers are yet to snap him.)
15:19, 19'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Katic is back on now and the game is as scrappy as ever, with Trey Nyoni going in the book after standing on Randell's foot. A shout of 'VAR' descends from the stands but there'll be none of that today.
15:17, 17'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Plymouth centre-back Nikola Katic is down and receiving treatment after colliding with a team-mate and... is that a dentist? There's blood coming from his mouth. He looks alright and is now on his feet but I doubt they have a spare tooth in the medical bag to slip in.
Shouts of 'wayyyy' as Harvey Elliott misplaces a pass just before that. Liverpool are struggling to find their rhythm today.
15:13
Gomez looked DEVASTATED
By Lewis Steele At Home Park
Joe Gomez's afternoon has come to an early end after he seemed to injure himself when attempting a clearance. The poor man looks devastated - captain today on his first appearance after a six-week lay-off with a hamstring injury and he has lasted just 10 minutes.

Liverpool debutant comes on - with Joe Gomez injured

Gomez down
By Luke Power
Ouch... Gomez is down and it looks like his day is over - potentially. He's only returned this week, having been out since late December with a hamstring blow.
Let's see if the Reds make a change.

McConnell becomes Mr Versatile
By Lewis Steele At Home Park
James McConnell, the talented Liverpool midfielder, is playing at right back today.
Speaking to those close to him in the last months it is clear that he is Mr Versatile.
He started his career as a wide player in the Sunderland academy then was more of a No 10 in Liverpool's youth sides.
Since being in the first team he has been more of a deep-lying midfielder... but now he is at full back! Wataru Endo is in midfield with Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah as the centre backs.
15:06, 6'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Yet more threatening behaviour from Plymouth. This wasn't part of the plan!
Hardie curls a low ball into the area with multiple bodies chasing it, and it's a good job Kelleher zips off his line to hoover it up before Wright can leather it in.
15:05, 5'
Plymouth 0-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Jota and Diaz combined to hoist the ball into the area, with the latter playing it back to young Trey Nyoni, who swings a shot goalwards but sees it blocked. Good impetus from the lad but should have got it out quicker from his feet.
15:02, 2'
Block! Plymouth 0-0 Liveprool
By Luke Power
Early enocuragement for Plymouth, who use a flick-on to carve out a chance. Wright feeds Hardie through on goal and the fans are out of their seats, but Gomez closes him down and forces him to shoot from outside the area, blocking the effort.
Plymouth go again but Chiesa gets on his bike and puts a challenge in, giving away a corner which comes to nothing.
15:01, 1'
Kick-off
By Luke Power
Plymouth get us underway but lose possession within seconds and Tsimikas is darting up the left flank but hits a dead end. Ball back to the hosts.
14:58
Players are out
By Luke Power
Plenty of green and white flags held aloft at Home Park as the players come out, some bouncing to inject some last-minute warmth into their legs.
Mascot Pilgrim Pete waves to the crowd although it's unlikely he'll be on the scoresheet today. Still, 10/10 for the moustache.
14:55
How far can James McConnell go?
By Luke Power
Another man with a chance to earn his stripes today is midfielder James McConnell, 20.
He's been around the Liverpool set-up for a couple of seasons now and gets a go from the off today.
Quick read before kick-off if you fancy it.
Why Arne Slot was so desperate to keep James McConnell
LEWIS STEELE: Half-and-half scarves are generally frowned upon by football fans but one family from Morpeth might have good reason to invest in some when Liverpool play Newcastle next month.

Muslic aims to deliver memorable day
By Lewis Steele At Home Park
Good afternoon from Home Park. I can confirm it is a very long way from Liverpool. Anyway, the atmosphere is great here and the sun is shining.
The last time I was here was two seasons ago when Argyle won promotion from League One under Steven Schumacher on a memorable day.
Schuey is no longer at the wheel and now Miron Muslic is in charge. He will hope to deliver another memorable afternoon for these loyal fans.
14:49
Huge chance for Chiesa
By Luke Power
This is just Chiesa's third start for Liverpool after an injury-hit year.
There's no denying this man's quality. He was the star of Italy's Euros-winning campaign.
From what we heard there from Arne Slot, he wants to see some grit from the star as much as twinkling toes.
Of course, a goal would help as well. Do you back him to score today?
14:46
Arne Slot - here are the qualities my team must show me
By Luke Power
Speaking to ITV...
There's still a long way to go, we know how difficult this game is going to be, they've changed manager, very direct playing style.
The quality that the opponent brings and their playing style, lots of long balls and second balls, you have to be very focused and concentrated for 90 minutes.
It's good for the players that don't usually play that don't get playing time.
It's going to be very difficult to play your best football over here because it's a very intense team. What I want to see is that we can trust them in work rate and winning second balls. They need to show fight.
We have to play it like it is the final.
14:41
Plymouth star Wright hoping to emulate Gerrard
By Luke Power
Let's hear from Callum Wright, a Plymouth midfielder who went to the same school as Steven Gerrard. Not in the same year, of course, he's 24...
To ITV:
It's a dream come true at Home Park, it's going to be a great day.
He (Gerrard) is an inspiration, he's my idol, the whole Liverpool football club is. It's the reason I'm playing football today.
It's going to be tough but we've got a game plan and hopefully we can cause an upset.
He's (manager Miron Muslic) making us hard to play against, we're all together as one, you can feel it in the changing room.

The FA Cup lives on - even with weakened squads
By Oliver Holt At Home Park
Arne Slot has made 10 changes to his Liverpool team from the side that beat Spurs in midweek.
The days are long gone when the top clubs played their strongest XI in games like this but the FA Cup is the competition that refuses to die in spite of everything that is thrown at it.

Elliot: 'I feel like I'm getting a bit old now, to be honest'
By Tum Balogun
Harvey Elliott, Liverpool, ITV:
I feel like I'm getting a bit old now to be honest when you put it like that because I think that's what this competition is about . Now there are 16-year-olds on our best today and hopefully they can make a difference.
It's the joy of the cup, opportunities for youngsters like myself when I was coming through. It's the miracle of it really.

Miron Muslic, Plymouth boss, ITV:
A beautiful day and a beautiful challenge. The FA Cup, the most famous cup in the world - the best team here at Home Park so everything to enjoy.

The magic of the FA Cup
By Tum Balogun
The FA Cup gives us these 'David vs Goliath' tussles now and again and it's a treat for both sets of fans and the neutrals. This is perhaps shown in the unusual surroundings the bigger side is treated to.
Now, let's not go over the top, Plymouth are a second tier team but still, the away dressing rooms are probably not something many of the Liverpool stars are accustomed to these days.

Plymouth team news: TWO changes
By Tum Balogun
Ryan Hardie, the match-winner against West Brom, starts up front as Muslic changes his shape for iconwin the visit of the Premier League leaders. It's two changes for the home side from the side that beat the Baggies last week.

Subs: Grimshaw, Mumba, Houghton, Obafemi, Boateng, Tijani, Al Hajj, Baidoo, Palsson

Plymouth coach is so devoted to the club he was made a Freeman of the City
By Tum Balogun
Kevin Nancekivell masterminded the Pilgrims' third round win over Brentford last month in his role as caretaker boss. He has remained as Muslic's assistant and there's an interesting story about his devotion to the club.
Make sure you don't miss DOMINIC KING'S superb reporting on it below.
Meet the Plymouth coach so devoted he was made a Freeman of the City

New hope under a new boss
By Tum Balogun
The Plymouth fans arrive today with no expectations, only hope as their focus remains on surviving the drop. The side are rooted to the foot of the Championship table but things have improved under Muslic.
The Austrian boss has a record of two defeats, two draws and one win from his five games in the dugout. That solitary victory came last time out against West Brom. In fact, the Pilgrims are two games unbeaten. It's not much but it's something compared to where they were under Wayne Rooney.

Slot: 'We must not complain about the amount of games we play'
By Tum Balogun
Arne Slot, Liverpool boss, pre-match presser:
We want to be competing for every trophy and in every competition. We must not complain about the amount of games we play. It is what it is.
I'm not only talking about the [Tottenham] result yesterday evening but the players are fit and are ready, not only the 11 that were on the pitch but those that came in as well. We are in a good place but we also know how long the season still is and how many difficult challenges there will still be for us

Last time at Home Park
By Tum Balogun
The Reds required a rare Lucas Leiva goal to get past the then League Two side in a third round replay when these two sides last met in 2017. The Pilgrims had managed to secure a 0-0 draw in the first match and were only narrowly beaten 10 days later.
13:46
Reds are in the house
By Tum Balogun
The visitors have touched down at Home Park ahead of this afternoon's game, having already booked one Wembley trip this season. Liverpool thrashed Tottenham in midweek to claim a spot in the League Cup final as their bid for an unlikely quadruple continues.
I say unlikely because it is ludicrous to be talking about them completing a clean sweep of the major honours with so many twists and turns to come. But, I guess, this team deserve that kind of respect, given the performances they have put in so far.
13:38
Muslic: 'Liverpool are the best team in the world'
By Tum Balogun
Miron Muslic, Plymouth boss, pre-match presser:
Right now, Liverpool are the best team in the world, so we are very much looking forward to having them here at Home Park. We deserve this as a club, as an organisation. The Green Army deserves to have this kind of game, against the best team in the world.
This is not exaggerating, if you can dominate the Premier League, and if you can dominate the Champions League like they are doing. For us, we need to enjoy playing against the leader of the Premier League, to feel also what it takes to be on that level. That's experience we want to gain. We want to learn from this game, and we want to enjoy this game.

Can the Reds be stopped?
By Tum Balogun
Good afternoon and welcome to Mail Sport's coverage of the FA Cup fourth-round clash between Plymouth and Liverpool at Home Park.
It looks like a glorious day down on the coast, a glorious day for an upset? Seems unlikely but stranger things have happened. Not very often, but they have nonetheless.
The Championship strugglers welcome the Premier League leaders to their stomping ground this afternoon, looking to continue their improved form of late.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are hoping to continue their assault on the major trophies in English football. We'll have all the updates for you ahead of the 3:00pm kick off and then all the action when the game gest underway.

By Oliver Holt At Home Park
Today's team selection is Slot's first mistake in English football. It's also a reminder that, however much coaches pay lip service to the FA Cup, it's the competition that takes the hit when the big teams are trying to find an opportunity to rest their players.

17:34
Liverpool hit rock bottom with unbelievable stat
By Luke Power
As per Opta, Liverpool had 0.44 expected goals today - their lowest of any game this season!
Obviously, some people will roll their eyes at XG, but it is a decent indicator of how many big chances the side had.
In all they had 14 shots, but towards the end more of them were from range or in tricky situations. Only four hit the target.
As for Plymouth, they had 10 shots, with two hititng the target, Ryan Hardie's winning penalty being one of those.
17:28

Plymouth have kept two clean sheets in the Championship all season - against Portsmouth and Stoke.
Somehow, they have also kept two in the FA Cup... against Brentford and Liverpool.

Football.

Is that it?

Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
90+6
Poor ball from Chiesa as he misdirects a limp cross from the byline and Plymouth get it out, but Liverpool pick it up on the halfway line. they continue to probe, more frantic by the moment.
Another big header away by Katic, a hero today.
16:53
Great save! Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power

16:50
Nine minutes added on
By Luke Power

Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool
By Luke Power
Bundu has worked his way into the bad books after a foul on Trey Nyoni deep in Liverpool's half.
16:27
Plymouth 1-0 Liverpool

A wild cross from Kostas Tsimikas which would sooner reach Mars than the Plymouth penalty box. Jeers from the crowd. They're soaking in every moment of this carnivalesque day.

15:12, 10'
Liverpool debutant comes on - with Joe Gomez injured
By Luke Power
Welcome to Isaac Mabaya, a 20-year-old from Preston, who makes a long-awaited debut as Gomez comes off.
McConnell switches into midfield.
15:09, 9'
Gomez down
By Luke Power
Ouch... Gomez is down and it looks like his day is over - potentially. He's only returned this week, having been out since late December with a hamstring blow.
Let's see if the Reds make a change.
15:08, 8'

14:37
The FA Cup lives on - even with weakened squads
By Oliver Holt At Home Park
Arne Slot has made 10 changes to his Liverpool team from the side that beat Spurs in midweek.
The days are long gone when the top clubs played their strongest XI in games like this but the FA Cup is the competition that refuses to die in spite of everything that is thrown at it.
14:33
Anticipation is building

Elliot: 'I feel like I'm getting a bit old now, to be honest'
By Tum Balogun
Harvey Elliott, Liverpool, ITV:
I feel like I'm getting a bit old now to be honest when you put it like that because I think that's what this competition is about . Now there are 16-year-olds on our best today and hopefully they can make a difference.
It's the joy of the cup, opportunities for youngsters like myself when I was coming through. It's the miracle of it really.
14:25
Muslic: 'A beautiful day and a beautiful challenge'
By Tum Balogun
Miron Muslic, Plymouth boss, ITV:
A beautiful day and a beautiful challenge. The FA Cup, the most famous cup in the world - the best team here at Home Park so everything to enjoy.
14:21
The magic of the FA Cup
By Tum Balogun
The FA Cup gives us these 'David vs Goliath' tussles now and again and it's a treat for both sets of fans and the neutrals. This is perhaps shown in the unusual surroundings the bigger side is treated to.
Now, let's not go over the top, Plymouth are a second tier team but still, the away dressing rooms are probably not something many of the Liverpool stars are accustomed to these days.
14:10
Plymouth team news: TWO changes
By Tum Balogun
Ryan Hardie, the match-winner against West Brom, starts up front as Muslic changes his shape for iconwin the visit of the Premier League leaders. It's two changes for the home side from the side that beat the Baggies last week.
Plymouth XI: Hazard, Pleguezuelo, Hardie, Wright, Bundu, Puchacz, Gyabi, Randell, Katic, Sorinola, Talovierov
Subs: Grimshaw, Mumba, Houghton, Obafemi, Boateng, Tijani, Al Hajj, Baidoo, Palsson

Liverpool fans rejoice, Chiesa is in the starting XI. The Italian comes into a much-changed side that still looks mighty impressive.
Elsewhere, Gomez returns from injury and Endo starts on his birthday.

Subs: Jaros, Nunez, Jones, Kone-Doherty, Mabaya, Nallo, Ngumoha, Norris, Young

Plymouth coach is so devoted to the club he was made a Freeman of the City
By Tum Balogun
Kevin Nancekivell masterminded the Pilgrims' third round win over Brentford last month in his role as caretaker boss. He has remained as Muslic's assistant and there's an interesting story about his devotion to the club.
Make sure you don't miss DOMINIC KING'S superb reporting on it below.
Meet the Plymouth coach so devoted he was made a Freeman of the City
DOMINIC KING: Nancekivell, 53, is assistant to Miron Muslic, the Austrian-Bosnian who replaced Wayne Rooney as manager last month.

13:54
Slot: 'We must not complain about the amount of games we play'
By Tum Balogun
Arne Slot, Liverpool boss, pre-match presser:
We want to be competing for every trophy and in every competition. We must not complain about the amount of games we play. It is what it is.
I'm not only talking about the [Tottenham] result yesterday evening but the players are fit and are ready, not only the 11 that were on the pitch but those that came in as well. We are in a good place but we also know how long the season still is and how many difficult challenges there will still be for us
13:50
13:35
